Young Women in Trades and Technology Welding Camp
- Posted on March 27, 2024
This past Saturday, the Calgary Hall hosted the second CAREERS – Young Women In Trades and Technology, an introductory camp focusing on welding.
This event was entirely led by females, featuring five dedicated Boilermaker volunteers, along with one Trades Career Manager from TEPF and three representatives from Careers.
On Saturday morning, a group of seventeen young women from grades 9 – 12 gathered at the Boilermaker Hall to learn about a career in welding and the art of the trade. They received hands-on instruction in GMAW and SMAW welding techniques, as well as training in Oxy Fuel cutting. We wrapped up the day with two art projects, including an exploration of basic forging and steel shaping using the anvil, igniting their creativity as Blacksmiths.
Collectively, we’ve ignited a passion for welding in the group of young students and sparked the interest in a new generation of future welders.
