2025 Weld Rodeo
Each year, we continue to see growing engagement from parents, educators, sponsors, and our members. Having Rob James, Director of of Apprenticeship and Education, and J’Amey Bevan, Director of National Training for NTTF, attend to witness firsthand the strong community Local 146 is building, one that fosters pride and camaraderie among the next generation of Welders and Boilermakers is truly invaluable. Already this week, we have received numerous calls and emails from students and sponsors eager to learn more about future career and event opportunities.
This year, contractors such as Altex, Edmonton Exchanger, EIL, B&W, and CIMS provided sponsorship for the Weld Rodeo, with some attending in person to support the event.
We are excited to share that this year’s event welcomed nine schools and a total of 36 students. Each team, consisting of four students, was tasked with fabricating a Chuck Wagon based on blueprint interpretation, ensuring it passed a leak test. Students also got to show their creativity by crafting scrap metal sculptures under the “Western Welding” theme. Four out of seven students successfully passed their CWB 1GF mock test. Going forward, CWB will officially sponsor testing at next year’s event, allowing interested students to earn their CWB 1GF qualification and gain a head start in their careers.
Not only did students walk away with welding prizes, but this year, teachers also received custom-embroidered welding button up shirts sponsored by Local 146. They were all very appreciative! Also, materials provided by sponsors will be donated to four of the teachers welding classrooms, further supporting welding education in our community.
