Our usual Vegas flare was felt through out the tournament with hidden golf balls signed by elvis, dice spinners and wheels that decide whos ball or what club would be used, slot machines and big ticket prizes including a chance to win a trip for two to Vegas. Along with all this a slightly different suprise met golfers on the 11th hole. We had a medi-centre complete with PARscriptions for each of the players. At the Boilermakers Golf Tournament you never know what suprises are around the corner! Winners at this years tournament were: Men's Longest Drive - Dan Dutkewich, Women's Longest Drive - Linda Dixon, Men's Longest Putt - Tony Nguyen, Women's Longest Putt - Gladys Mitchell?. Robin Cameron and Steven Whitely each took home $250 from the two QCC Closest to the Pin Challenges and Victor Green won the $500 TIW Closest to the Pin Prize. The Tournament Champions this year were Robin Cameron, Al Van Slyke, Walter VanLeest and Nick Gerke! For great pictures of this event click here. Check out the pictures posted of this year’s picnic and be sure to come out next year! 2012 Boilermaker Annual Awards BanquetThe Banquet was held January 28th at the Delta Edmonton South. Last year was our first 60yr member but it was certainly not our last. This year we honoured John Koch for his 60 years of service as well as a whopping 11 55yr members! Some of which are pictured below. Our top ranking apprentices of 2011 were: Odin Nielsen, Boilermaker 1st yr; Ryan Harvey, Boilermaker 2nd yr; Scott Krywy, Boilermaker 3rd yr (this was Scotts second time in a row achieving top in his class); Travis Dreissigacker, Welder 1st yr; Charles Moore, Welder 2nd yr; John Chilsholm, Welder 3rd yr. 2011 Show & Shine
What a beautiful day to raise money for kids in need and look at amazing cars! In total we were able to raise $3898.34 for 630 CHED Santas Anonymous. Your generousity is outstanding thank you all very much! Crowd favourites and this years winners were: Car - Al & Lynsie Knight 1953 Oldsmobile Truck - Ernie Andruik 1956 Ford F100 Motorbike - Ian Robb 2011 suped up Harley Davidson "Freakshow Custom Bagger" Well done everyone. A few of the other highlight cars at this years show were the University of Albertas Formula SAE who placed 7th overall at the 2011 FSAE West competition, Nap Pepins Electric car, a custom made electric reverse trike and Martin Woods car was out shining in the sun. This years show was dedicated to the memory of Martin and his family was there to show off his car in some fin burn outs after the show. Thank you to all the volunteers who dedicated there time and to the Quality Control Council of Canada, Unite Here 47, Encore Specialty Products Ltd. and The Building Trades of Alberta for their generous donations that helped to make this years show a success! Las Vegas Scramble Boilermaker Golf TournamentThank you to everyone who came out to our golf tournament this year and to all those who donated prizes and monetary gifts to JDRF and Dogs with Wings. All together we raised $5,735.00 for these two great causes. Saturday we made a difference and had a lot of fun doing it! Elvis and the Colonel were out again with all the usual fun vegas style challenges including this years newest addition the slot machine! Although we didn't have any big winners on the slot machine we did have big winners out on the course with Janice Malowany winning the Longest Putt for the ladies and Troy Mearon for the men. Cheryl Hamer won the Ladies Longest Drive and Danny Graham the Men's Longest Drive. James Johnson took home the $500 from the QCC Closest to the Pin Challenge and Kris Sobkiw the $500 TIW Closest to the Pin Prize. Ken Gochanour, Joseph Raimondi, John Birzgalis and John James Birzgalis found themselves once again tied up after 18 holes, this year with Kevin McHale, Tom Caul, Martin Collier and Joe Holmes. The tournament moved to the tie-breaking putting green for a putt-off. Ken hit a perfect putt right into the hole and once again team Gochanour came out tournament champions! For great pictures of this event click here. Luc Lefebvre Family Picnic 2011The clouds parted Sunday June 12th around noon, just in time for our Boilermaker Family Picnic to really get going. Once again we had fabulous food, music and a lot of fun! Everyone sported sensational new tatoos, some lookin' fine with as many as 10 dotting their bodies! This year the activities started out with a scavenger/treasure hunt that had the kids racing around figuring out clues and completing challenges. Everyone did a wonderful job. We ended up with some pretty fantastic poems including my favourite; Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Boilermakers make engines Bloom! by Joseph King, Jacob King, Reese Norman and Levi Pearson. After the young and young at heart tried out their skills at the foot races, sac races, tug-of-war, shoe kick and finally the much needed balloon toss which proved a heaven sent relief to the heat of the bright sun! The highlight however, was the after hours show. At the end of the day a few of the hot cars showed off for the remaining crowd preforming burnouts in the parking lot. Well we had another wonderful picnic on Saturday June 16th at Victoria Park. The tattoo artist was out again painting everyone up in sparkly dragons and butterflys. And we had another scavenger hunt this year that had kids searching for leaves and building towers. Everyone did a wonderful job. The races were a big hit as usual. To view this years winners click here. The day ended with the new addition of PINATAS! Hillarious to watch and lots of sweets to eat. 

Congratulations to our graduates and long term members among those was Joseph Ferland receiving a beautiful ring in honour of his 60 year anniversary as a member of Local 146. This was the first time our local has had a 60 year member. Joe we salute you!
This year's tournament took place Thursday August 5th at the Ranch Golf and Country Club. The winning team consisting of Jack Stewart, Wayne Saltys, Mario Morrato and William Robertson are pictured below as Arnie Stadnick presents their well deserved trophies. Other winners of the day were Allan Parr for Longest Drive, Jack Stewart for Longest Putt and Ken Gochanour for Closest to Pin.
